A drive from Bangalore to Yercaud, India. Three of us, agriculture graduates, Ravi, Sanjit and Lovely wondered why eating healthy should be boring and unexciting. As self-confessed foodies, it was not the first time that ‘tasty food’ hijacked our discussions. ‘How can we make healthy food tasty?’ was a question that we had discussed over and over!
THE FOLLOW UP
As we continued our ‘healthy-tasty food’ discussions in our WhatsApp group, Ravi brought to our attention, his sports-loving, vegetarian son’s quest for ‘natural plant protein’. His protein needs were simple- faster post-workout recovery, non-allergenic, easy to use and no bloating.
‘Pea protein’ had been on our mind for a few years then, and we knew enough about the ‘beany or gritty taste’ associated with it. These real-life experiences helped shape our mandate – come up with a ‘tasty, natural protein’ that would appeal to the millennials!
THE MOTIVATION
As food-lovers who value taste as much as health, we were clear that we wouldn’t end up with just another plant protein powder that wouldn’t dissolve easily, would leave lumps or had to be always consumed as a drink. No, we couldn’t be boring! We wanted a pea powder that would easily become a part of our everyday lives. The question that we asked ourselves is, ‘can we have the plant protein powder for breakfast, lunch and dinner without having to change our existing food habits?’
WHAT WE BROUGHT
Ravi’s 21 years of experience in the biotechnology industry including life sciences, food, health and nutrition and his extensive exposure in several international countries helped us source the best quality, premium, GRAS and GMP certified, pea protein, from Europe. Sanjit’s and Lovely’s consulting, sales and marketing and channel development experience helped us push the envelope, to conceive a new product launch, right in the middle of a pandemic.
